சங்கம் மீட்போம் வேட்பாளர் வெங்கடேஸ்வரன்

வெங்கடேஸ்வரன் டி.வி.

சந்திரயான், மங்கல்யான், செயற்கைக் கோள்கள் போன்ற வானியல் தொடர்பான தொலைக்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் தமிழில் இவர் விளக்கம் அளிப்பதை நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் பார்த்திருப்பீர்கள். 

டாக்டர் டி.வி. வெங்கடேஸ்வரன், மைய அரசின் அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறையின்கீழ் வரும் விக்யான் ப்ரசார் என்ற அமைப்பில் விஞ்ஞானியாகப் பணியாற்றுகிறார். இவர் ஓர் அறிவியல் பிரச்சாரகர், எழுத்தாளர், ஆய்வாளர். 

“India Science Wire” என்னும் இணைய இதழின் நிறுவகர், தலைமை ஆசிரியர். இந்த இதழ் மைய அரசின் அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறை வெளியிடுகிறது. தற்போது அறிவியல் பலகை என்னும் தமிழ் செய்திமடல், கன்னடத்தில் கூத்துக்கலா என்னும் செய்தி மடல் ஆகியவற்றின் ஆசிரியராக இருக்கிறார்.

ராஜ்ய சபா தொலைக்காட்சியில் ‘யுரேகா’ என்னும் தலைப்பில் இந்திய விஞ்ஞானிகளுடன் நேர்காணல் தொடர் ஒன்றை கடந்த மூன்றாண்டுகளாக நடத்தி வருகிறார். தினமலர் வெளியிடும் பட்டம் என்றும் சிறுவர் இதழில் வாரம்தோறும் அறிவியல் தொடர் எழுதி வருகிறார். இதுதவிர, தமிழின் முக்கியப் பத்திரிகைகள் அனைத்திலும் அறிவியல் குறித்த கட்டுரைகளை எழுதி வருகிறார். 

தமிழிலும் ஆங்கிலத்திலும் அறிவியல் தொடர்புடைய 50க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நூல்களையும், நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கட்டுரைகளையும் எழுதியிருக்கிறார். அண்மையில் வெளிவந்த நூல்கள் ஸ்டீஃபன் ஹாக்கிங் (தமிழ்), A Revolutionary Scientist Einstein (ஆங்கிலம்). இந்த ஆங்கில நூல் பல பதிப்புகள் கண்டுள்ளது. Frontline, Down to Earth, Science Reporter, Indradanush, Chakmak, Sandarpஉள்ளிட்ட பல ஆய்விதழ்களில் கட்டுரைகள் வெளி வருகின்றன. 

தமிழ்நாட்டில் அறிவியல் பிரச்சாரம், இந்தியப் பண்பாடும் அறிவியலும், தமிழர் பகுதிகளில் வானியல், வாக்ய பஞ்சாங்கம், தமிழ்நாட்டில் மத்திய காலத்திய நாள்காட்டி முறை, தென்னிந்திய நாள்காட்டி முறை போன்றவை இவருக்கு ஆர்வமுள்ள துறைகள்.

Dr T.V. Venkateswaran

Dr T.V.Venkateswaran is Scientist (F) with ‘Vigyan Prasar’, National Institute for Science Communication, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. He is a science communicator, writer, researcher in the area of history of science in early modern and colonial south India and a science educatinost.

He was the founder chief editor of “India Science Wire” an online science and technology news feature service published by the Department of Science and Technology. Currently he is the editor and publisher of Ariviyal Palagai a new letter in Tamil and Kuthukala a news letter in Kannada.

In association with Rajya Saba TV (RSTV), he conducts a widely watched television weekly show -Eureka-Conversation with an Indian scientists for the past three years. He is popular in Tamulnadu for his weekly question and answer series in PATTAM, a supplement of DINAMALAR and weekly column on contemporary developments in S&T in The Tamil-Hindu and a regular contributor to various journals and magazines on popular science and showcasing scientific activities in Indian labs and research Institutions.

He has published several articles and more than 50 books, popular science as well as analytical work on popular science. He has contributed an article to the compilation  “Bridging the Communication Gap in Science and Technology. Lessons from India. Editors: Bagla, Pallava, Binoy, V. V. One of his recent book is on Stephen Hawking (in Tamil). His book on Einstein has been published by NBT has come out in many editions.  He regularly writes on scientific topics in Frontline, Down to Earth, Science Reporter, Indradanush, Chakmak, Sandarp and other periodicals.

His research interest includes history of science popularization in Tamil nadu and critically examining the part played by science communication in fabrication of varied worldviews, in particular in Indian cultural cosmos. He is currently engaged in investigating the history if astronomy in Tamil region, especially the evolution, reception, spread of vakya panchanga and calendrical system since medieval period. He is also involved in the investigation to examine the inscriptions for astral data to investigate the practice of calendicals during the pre modern period south India.  His R&D profile includes development of science communication software as well as innovative strategies for science education and informal learning.
